Remembering Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.  and the timeless values he taught us through his example — the values of courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service. He dedicated his life to resolving racism and being a leader in civil rights movement. His iconic speech “I Have a Dream” touched the hearts of many and marked the beginning of freedom for many African Americans. His speech of working together not against, all men are created equal, his wish in the future that we will all treat each other like family, his hope there will be no injustices, and more is what motivated and shifted our society to change and improve to where it is currently.  This is an opportunity for all of us to take his legacy forward, by taking a pledge to recommit ourselves to the 'call to serve' and get involved in our communities and build a more inclusive world. 

Service Opportunity

Today I participated in a volunteer opportunity through my Mom's workplace, CGI. I volunteered at an organization called “Women Giving Back”. Their mission statement is "Women Giving Back supports women and children in crisis on a first step to stability by providing quality clothing at no cost, assisted by a caring and committed community." This was a wonderful opportunity for me to be actively involved within the community and contribute in a small way. It was amazing to see the impact of this organization within the community and I look forward to continued participation in their efforts!
